José Bento Monteiro Lobato foi um grande escritor brasileiro. Ele nasceu em Taubaté, cidade do Estado de São Paulo, no dia 18 de abril de 1822; por isso, nessa data, comemora-se o Dia do Livro.
Monteiro Lobato escreveu muitos livros para crianças e adultos.
Sua obra mais conhecida são as aventuras do Sítio do Pica-pau Amarelo, vividas pelos personagens Dona Benta, Tia Nastácia, Emília, Narizinho, Pedrinho, Visconde de Sabugosa e Marquês de Rabicó.
