Os índios foram os primeiros habitantes do Brasil.
Eles viviam em grupos chamados tribos. O chefe da tribo cahamava-se cacique.
Atualmente há poucas tribos indígenas no Brasil e muitos índios não andam mais nus, não caçam, nem moram em ocas. Mas algumas tribos mantêm seus costumes originais e preservam suas tradições como festas e danças.
Os índios moravam em cabanas chamadas ocas, muitas ocas reunidas formavam uma taba ou aldeia.
Eles gostavam de caçar, pescar, colher frutas e algumas raízes para a sua alimentação. Também plantavam milho e mandioca.
Os índios usavam o arco, a flecha, o tacape e a lança como armas. Fabricavam instrumentos musicais, como chocalhos, tambores, maracás, para utiliza-los em suas festas.
A Funai (Fundação Nacional do Índio) é uma organização do governo criada para defender os direitos do índio na sociedade.
