Aristóteles
Este grande filósofo grego, filho de Nicômaco, médico de Amintas, rei da Macedônia, nasceu em Estagira, colônia grega da Trácia, no litoral setentrional do mar Egeu, em 384 a.C. Aos dezoito anos, em 367, foi para Atenas e ingressou na academia platônica, onde ficou por vinte anos, até à morte do Mestre.
Nesse período estudou também os filósofos pré-platônicos, que lhe foram úteis na construção do seu grande sistema. Em 343 a. C., foi chamado por Felipe II, da Macedônia, para educar seu filho, Alexandre, e permaneceu na função durante vários anos. De volta a Atenas, Aristóteles fundou a própria escola, o Liceu, desenvolvendo uma obra antiplatônica.
O filósofo valorizava a inteligência humana, única forma de alcançar a verdade. Fez escola e seus pensamentos foram seguidos e propagados pelos discípulos. Pensou e escreveu sobre diversas áreas do conhecimento: política, lógica, moral, ética, teologia, pedagogia, metafísica, didática, poética, retórica, física, antropologia, psicologia e biologia. Publicou muitas obras de cunho didático, principalmente para o público geral.
Valorizava a educação e a considerava uma das formas crescimento intelectual e humano. Sua grande obra é o livro Organon, que reúne grande parte de seus pensamentos.
Aristóteles passou a ser perseguido por ter colaborado na educação do imperador macedônio. Refugiou-se em Cálcis, onde morreu em 322 a. C.
