Burrhus Frederic Skinner
Burrhus Frederic Skinner nasceu em 20 de março de 1904 na cidade de Susquehanna na Pensilvânia. Graduou-se em Psicologia em 1930 e terminou seu doutorado em 1931.
Trabalhou na Universidade de Minesota e quando ingressou em Harvard influenciou toda uma geração de estudantes. Morreu em 1990, vítima de leucemia.
Skinner baseou suas teorias na análise das condutas observáveis. Dividiu o processo de aprendizagem em respostas operantes e estímulos de reforço, o que o levou a desenvolver técnicas de modificação de conduta na sala de aula.
Trabalhou sobre a conduta em termos de reforços positivos (recompensas) contra reforços negativos (castigos).
Princípios

1. Comportamento que é positivamente reforçado vai acontecer novamente. Reforço intermitente é particularmente efetivo.
2. As informações devem ser apresentadas em pequenas quantidades, para que as respostas sejam reforçadas ("moldagem").
3. Reforços vão generalizar, lado a lado, estímulos similares (generalização de estímulo) produzindo condicionamento secundário.
Principais tipos de reforços
1.POSITIVO: todo estímulo que quando está presente aumente a probabilidade de que se produza uma conduta.
2.NEGATIVO: todo estímulo aversivo que ao ser retirado aumenta a probabilidade de que se produza a conduta.
3.EXTINÇÃO: a qual se apresenta quando um estímulo que previamente reforçava a conduta deixa de atuar.
4.CASTIGO: igual ao da extinção funciona para reduzir a conduta.
Nos usos que propôs para suas conclusões científicas — em especial na educação —, Skinner pregou a eficiência do reforço positivo, sendo, em princípio, contrário a punições e esquemas repressivos, sugeria que o uso das recompensas e reforços positivos da conduta correta era mais atrativo do ponto de vista social e pedagogicamente eficaz.
