Carl Rogers
Carl Rogers nasceu em Oak Park, perto de Chicago, em 1902. Rogers era o filho do meio de uma grande família protestante, onde os valores tradicionais e religiosos (quase fundamentalistas), juntamente com o incentivo ao trabalho duro eram amplamente cultivados.
Rogers tornou-se pastor e encaminhou os estudos para a teologia, quando começou a se interessar por psicologia. O primeiro foco do trabalho foram crianças submetidas a abusos e maus-tratos. Neste mesmo período começou, por observação, a desenvolver suas teorias sobre personalidade e prática terapêutica.
Publicou seu primeiro livro aos 40 anos e assim seguiram-se mais de 100 publicações destinadas a divulgar suas ideias, que ganharam seguidores em todo o mundo. O pilar da terapia rogeriana são os “grupos de encontro”, em que diversos clientes interagem.
Rogers morreu em 1987, em San Diego, Califórnia.
